Donner Party

San Francisco’s Donner Party released 1 self-titled album in 1987 before these were brought to the eye of then-Camper Vehicle Beethoven’s David Lowery, who authorized these to his Pitch a Tent label for his or her second and last saving in 1988. The energy trio performed shrewd pop performed naïvely, due to the fact vocalist Sam Coomes shipped his whimsical lyrics within a strained, non-chalant vocal design. The purposefully childlike strategy by all of those other music group (drummer and vocalist Melanie Clarin and Reinhold Johnson) veered from a primitive folk-rock sound to full-tilt, loud indie rock and roll. Clarin used the group while concurrently documenting and touring with another SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA guitar-based music group, the Cat Minds. Clarin is constantly on the record with a range of Bay Region rings, while Coomes relocated to Portland and produced Motorgoat and Quasi. Quasi frequently acts as a back-up band for vocalist/songwriter Elliott Smith and Coomes performed on Smith’s Body 8 (DreamWorks 2000). In March 2000, Innerstate Information released a two-CD anthology from the group’s gathered functions, Complete Recordings 1987-1989; it offers the self-titled Cryptovision and Pitch a Tent produces along with a third, previously unreleased record furthermore to eight live monitors. In Apr 2000, the music group re-formed for just one evening only in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA for the very first time in over a decade.
