Don Thompson Quartet

b. 18 January 1940, Powell River, Uk Columbia, Canada. Thompson performed bass with many Vancouver rings in the first 60s, including those led by Dave Robbins, Chris Gage and Fraser McPherson. He also led his personal groups and produced several appearances with one of these on CBC Radio and Tv. In 1965 he became a member of John Handy, touring with him through the entire USA for just two years and documenting two albums like the extremely popular Live IN THE Monterey Jazz Event. Handy’s music group was located in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA and during this time period Thompson could play with additional musicians, such as for example George Duke, Maynard Ferguson, Frank Rosolino and Denny Zeitlin. After his spell with Handy he came back to Canada, ultimately settling in Toronto. In 1969 he became a member of Rob McConnell’s Manager Brass, first like a percussionist before switching to bass and finally to piano.
