Dicky Wells

One of the most adventurous trombonists from the golf swing period, the distinctive Dicky Wells was somewhat innovative, using his horn within a speech-like design filled with significant amounts of color, laughter, and golf swing. Although he found fame with Count number Basie in 1938, Wells have been a major-league participant for ten years before that. After shifting to NY in 1926, he documented with Cecil Scott (to amusing influence on “Within a Part”) and Spike Hughes, furthermore to dealing with Fletcher Henderson, Benny Carter, and Teddy Hill; throughout a Western european tour with Hill he documented thoroughly. The Basie years (1938-1945 and 1947-1950) provided him some popularity and his playing behind vocalist Jimmy Hurrying was particularly unforgettable.
