Biography

Some bands have a while to access where they’re going, while some find it and spending some time perfecting it, not giving a treatment if the globe notices. Group X falls in to the last mentioned category, originally comprising vocalist Tony Pinotti, vocalist/guitarist Bruce Witsiepe, guitarist Rik Letendre, and his sibling Dave on drums. Developing in the past due ’70s in Louisville, KY, the quartet after that relocated to NY and dropped in using the no-wave masses (Mars, DNA, and so on). The effect was a continuous expansion of the sound and design, incorporating from overall performance artwork to synths and keyboards (with Pinotti specifically anchoring the second option) within the service of the edgy, frequently quite listener-unfriendly materials. An recording, Prehistory, crept out in 1983 on Enigma, but apart from arbitrary overall performance recordings, singles, along with other tasks (a good book), Group X remained purely out of view, out of brain even for some extreme music followers before early ’90s. In those days, following a selection of part tasks plus some lineup shuffling, drummer Martin Kob changed Dave Letendre, while Rik was strongly resolved on bass. This lineup released some singles, gathered and boxed because the Ivory Tower in 1993, resulting in only the next full album within the group’s background, Celestial, showing up on Matador in 1994.
