Chris Wood

Medeski, Martin and Timber bassist Chris Timber studied structure, and jazz and classical bass in his hometown Boulder, Colorado. In 1989, he visited the New Britain Conservatory of Music in Boston, and researched with Dave Holland, Geri Allen and Bob Moses, but shortly transformed his enrollment to part-time to be able to play with Moses. In 1990, both music artists toured as sidemen for an Israeli saxophonist with another U.S. musician, John Medeski. Once they came back, Timber and Medeski got associated with NYC’s downtown picture. Besides being 1 / 3 of MMW, Timber has performed numerous music artists, including Marc Ribot, Elliot Clear, Ned Rothenberg, John Zorn, and Sam Bennett, in his group Chunk.
