Carmen Leggio

An excellent soloist in both tenor and alto who’s in a position to play mainstream, bop and really difficult bop with equal service, Carmen Leggio was generally quite reliable no real matter what the environment. He began on clarinet when he was 11 and saxophones 3 years afterwards. After playing in regional bands, Leggio found NEW YORK in 1950 where he caused Terry Gibbs and became a studio room musician. Perhaps most obviously among his musical organizations have already been Marty Napoleon, Sol Yaged (1956), Benny Goodman (1957), Maynard Ferguson’s Orchestra (1958-59), Woody Herman (1963) and through the past due 1970’s the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. Carmen Leggio offers led albums for Jazz Unlimited (1961), Intensifying (1977), Famous Door (1978), Dreamstreet (1978), his personal Leggio label (1979) and a sampler arranged for Mothlight Music (1978-93).
