Bay City Jazz Band

Inspired from the Yerba Buena Jazz Strap and Turk Murphy, trombonist Sanford Newbauer and cornetist Everett Farey structured the Bay City Jazz Strap in March 1955. The talented youthful music artists (whose average age groups were 25) began playing frequently in public the next month. The music group was luckily enough to meet up the retired Lu Watters, who provided them a few of his agreements. By July these were playing frequently on the Sail’N in downtown SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA on weekends. Their primary lineup, as well as the co-leaders, included trumpeter Al Cavallin, clarinetist Roy Giomi, pianist Don Keeler, banjoist Tito Patri, Walt Yost on tuba, and drummer Lloyd Byassee. The Bay Town Jazz Music group drew its repertoire mainly from 1920s criteria (including songs performed by Louis Armstrong, Ruler Oliver, and Jelly Move Morton) and several brand-new originals. They produced two recordings for the nice Period Jazz label (both since reissued on Compact disc) in 1956 and 1957. By enough time of the next date, Yost acquired changed Cavallin on second cornet, Lee Valencia was on banjo, and Jack port Beecher was the brand new tuba participant. A part-time clothing (every one of the music artists had day careers), the octet performed almost exclusively within the Bay Region, although the music group did well in a concert kept on the Shrine Auditorium in LA. The Bay Town Jazz Band split up soon after their second record.
