Arturo Parra

Arturo Parra is of Columbian removal but lives in Montréal, Canada. This guitarist using a traditional musical education continues to be devoting his profession towards the functionality and structure of today’s repertoire for his device. His first main task is the routine Parr(A)Cousmatique for electric guitar and tape, released in 2002 by Empreintes DIGITALes. Currently a virtuoso concert guitarist in his indigenous country, Parra found its way to Canada in 1989. He shortly hooked up using the modern music scene, executing with Montreal’s Nouvel Outfit Moderne. His curiosity about extended playing methods and sonic analysis led him towards the pool of electro-acoustic music composers the town hosts. He initial collaborated with Stéphane Roy, executing in his tape piece “Mimetismo,” finished in 1992 and released in 1996 in the Compact disc Kaleidos. This knowledge planted a seed. While completing his PhD in music, the guitarist made a decision to forgo his length from interpretation to spotlight structure. He asked several electro-acousticians to utilize him in the task that became Parr(A)cousmatique. Roy, Gilles Gobeil, Robert Normandeau, and Francis Dhomont recognized his invitation to make standalone tape parts over which he added a created guitar part. This program premiered on the 15th FIMAV celebration in Victoriaville in-may 1998. “Soledad,” his cooperation with Gobeil, gained the Public Award on the 4th Concurso Intermacional de Música Eletroacústica de São Paulo in 2001. The tape-alone parts arrived on several albums, as the guitar-and-tape variations are gathered on the Compact disc released in 2002. In parallel with this task, Parra produced the group Paroles Égales with celebrity Catherine Ego. Pairing spoken term with modern traditional electric guitar, the duo continues to be performing sometimes in Montreal since 1998.
