Among the earliest Bhangra rings in Britain, Apna Sangeet has generated today’s dance music that incorporates components of Hindi, ghazal, geet, and kala music. Led by percussionist Gurcharan Mali, the group helped to create the specifications for Indo-Brit music with such Bhangra strikes as “Mera Yaar Vajye Dhol” and “Apna Sangeet Vajeh Apna Sangeet.” After disbanding and reuniting many times, Apna Sangeet came back towards the Bhangra picture in the past due ’90s, as Apna Group.
