State of Alert (SOA)

In 1979, at age 18, Henry Garfield began his musical career as the lead singer of D.C. hardcore music group Condition of Alert (S.O.A). Garfield, guitarist Michael Hampton, bassist Wendel Blow, and drummer Simon Jacobsen performed their first display in a full time income space and debuted using the fast and furious No Plan EP in 1981. The recording was only the next launch on Dischord, operate by Garfield’s closest friend, Ian MacKaye. Garfield transformed his name to Henry Rollins, and jumped onstage throughout a Dark Flag display in D.C. Following the music group invited Rollins to test and asked him to sing, he became a member of Dark Flag, and S.O.A. split up. Hampton proceeded to go onto join the Trust with Alec MacKaye from the Untouchables.
