Zakir Hussain

The tradition of Indian percussion continues to be revolutionalized by tabla player Zakir Hussain. The boy of Ustad Allah Rakha, the very long time collaborator of Ravi Shankar, Hussain provides inherited his father’s search for getting the music of India towards the worldwide stage. Globe Drum, an record co-produced with Hart in 1992, received a Grammy for “greatest world music record”, a NARM Indie Greatest Seller prize and earned the Downbeat Critics Poll for “Greatest world music record”. Still a young child when he begun to attract interest along with his virtuosic playing, Hussain started his musical profession at age seven and was touring by age twelve. In 1970, he produced his American debut as accompanist for Ravi Shankar. 3 years later on, he became the first choice from the Tal Vadya Tempo Music group. The group consequently evolved in to the Diga Tempo Music group. In 1976, the music group collaborated on the self-titled recording with Mickey Hart. Hussain offers performed around the soundtracks of several movies including Apocalypse Right now!, In Guardianship and Small Buddha. In the 1983 Cannes Film Event, he was nominated for an honor as composer and music movie director from the film, Warmth And Dust.
