XC-NN

This Leeds-based band of electro industrial rockers was formed as CNN by ex-Sisters Of Mercy guitarist Tim Bricheno (b. 6 July 1963, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, Britain) with vocalist/guitarist David Tomlinson and drummer Neill Lambert. They produced their debut on 1992’s Sizzling hot Wired Monstertrux compilation with ‘Searching Forward To YOUR DAY (I Stop Inhaling and exhaling)’, a quirkily upbeat however lyrically nihilistic melody, using a bizarrely lent Pal Holly lyric within the pre-chorus aiming the music group’s funny stall. The Adolescent, Stupid & White colored EP followed having a promotion campaign encouraging enthusiasts to nominate superstars whom they believed fitted that one bill, with every week winners offering on that week’s marketing. ‘Looking Forwards To The Day time’ was re-recorded for the Copyright EP having a sampled intro from 2 Unlimited’s ‘No Restricts’, getting legal actions from maker Pete Waterman, however the legal muscle tissue from the American information channel CNN demonstrated rather more intimidating, enforcing a name modification – even though band retained a feeling of identification by getting XC-NN. They finally recruited a bass participant in Nick Witherick, having previously used sampled bass lines like a three-piece, before documenting XC-NN. The debut’s variety and quality amazed many individuals who deemed XC-NN as only a frivolous gimmick music group, with inventive tracks which range from the pop availability of ‘1000 Easy’ to commercial guitar-based blasts. The music group’s live shows stayed exhilarating, but insufficient commercial success resulted in their break-up. Bricheno and Tomlinson shaped Tin Star.
