Placing the “spaced” back to space rock and roll, California neo-psychedelicists West Indian Girl perform a druggy type of desire pop that calls for the contemporary design of the Flaming Lips, Grandaddy, and Mercury Rev as their starting place and add ’60s and ’70s echoes which range from the droning freakout part from the Velvet Underground with the phased meandering of early-’70s Green Floyd towards the Beach Boys’ spaced-out post-SMiLE period. Though they appear to be they’ve spent their lives within hitchhiking range of Laurel Canyon, Western Indian Girl’s origins are in Detroit circa the first ’90s, when vocalist and guitarist Robert Wayne and bassist Francis Ten 1st fulfilled. After Ten relocated to LA, the pair continuing their collaboration with the email until James adopted his musical partner westward. Acquiring their name from a famous potent stress of early road LSD, Wayne and Ten authorized with EMI’s option imprint Astralwerks and created a proper music group for live gigs, including history vocalist and percussionist Mariqueen Maandig, keyboardist Chris Carter, and drummer Tag Lewis. Following the 2004 launch of the self-titled debut recording, West Indian Female released a far more dance-oriented remix EP in 2006. That same season, Carter still left the band, changed by a brand-new couple of keyboardists, Nathan Truck Hala and Amy Light. Parting firm with Astralwerks after their two produces didn’t ignite much see, West Indian Female signed using the indie label Milan Information and announced the discharge of the second proper record, 4th and Wall structure, in Oct 2007.
