Having a name that conjures images of purity and smooth blends, Birmingham, Alabama’s Virgos Merlot had not been always the smartly attired, reptilian contact lensed group they were in 1998, the entire year they first toured with such notable alt-rock bands as Fuel) and Eve 6. Vocalist/lyricist Brett Hestla, guitarist Jason Marchant, who experienced known oneanother since senior high school, and drummer JD Charlton all performed together inside a music group called Wanton Rut. Hestla and Marchant worked well in a cupboard shop at that time, with Marchant later on becoming a certified paramedic.
