Washington D.C.’s Utris shaped in 1995, when vocalist Andrew Deerin, guitarist J. Patrick Hastings, bassist Deke Shipp and drummer Damon Dwyer had been still students. Afterwards that season they self-released their initial collection of tracks, The Balls Record. Though the initial pressing sold-out and the record subsequently proceeded to go out-of-print, person to person and underground dubbing from the recording helped pass on Utris’ music. In the mean time, the group spent over 3 years in the studio room recording songs; in 1999, these were authorized to Annex Information and early the next 12 months, their second recording The Very long Walk Home, made an appearance. Landscapes was released two years later on.
