Uncle Homer Walker

John “Uncle” Homer Walker was created in 1904 in Summers Region, VA, although he lived the majority of his life in Glen Lyn, VA (Giles Region). An excellent clawhammer banjo participant in the archaic dark Appalachian custom, Walker was the main topic of a brief documentary film, Banjo Guy, stated in 1977 by Seattle filmmaker Joe Vinikow and narrated by Taj Mahal. Walker also made an appearance in another documentary film, 1980’s Morris Family members Old Period Music Event. Reported to have already been playing banjo since he was seven or eight years of age, Walker passed away on January 4, 1980, in Princeton, WV.
