The Voices of East Harlem

An frequently stirring 20-member ensemble whose music was better fitted to devotional and inspirational materials than business R&B or spirit, the Voices of East Harlem included business lead vocalists Gerri Griffin and Monica Burress. Makers Leroy Hutson and Curtis Mayfield caused the group, whose age range ranged from 12 to 21, and trim some material over the Simply Sunlight label that didn’t generate any graph actions. But their 1973 LP, The Voices of East Harlem, was a superbly performed discharge nonetheless, as well as the one “Cashing In” was a cult preferred. The one “Wanted Deceased or Alive” was afterwards reissued being a 12″ remixed cut and got some worldwide dance attention.
