The Tonettes

Ideal remembered for the lady group common “Oh! Just what a Baby,” the Tonettes produced in the Bronx in 1957 — when their tv continued the fritz, sisters Diana and Sylvia Sanchez resorted to harmonizing with the family members piano to eliminate time, therefore impressing Television repairman and aspiring music biz impresario Lou Ezzo that he persuaded the siblings to trim a demo program. After recruiting classmate Josie Allen, the trio dubbed themselves the Claremonts honoring the road the Sanchez family members called house — Ezzo quickly certified their debut work, “Why Maintain Me Thinking,” towards the Apollo label, eventually selling the ladies’ agreement to Apollo vice chief executive Charles Merenstein. When Merenstein released his personal Doe label, he brought the Claremonts with him, rechristening the group the Tonettes — the Allen-penned “Oh! Just what a Baby” strike retail in early 1958, showing so well-known on East Coastline radio that ABC-Paramount certified the disk for national launch. Despite charting in pouches from the U.S., “Oh! Just what a Baby” didn’t reach the Billboard Sizzling 100, and after adding uncredited support vocals to vocalist Vince Castro’s solitary “Bong Bong (I REALLY LIKE You Madly),” the Tonettes slice their follow-up, “Uh-Oh” — when the solitary failed to capture open fire, the trio’s documenting career found a close, plus they break up in 1962.
