The Memphis Horns

Arguably the best soul horn section ever, the Memphis Horns were a crucial area of the Stax formula through the ’60s and ’70s, in addition to prolific contributors to varied other sessions because the label’s demise. Though today the name is usually identified using the duo of trumpeter Wayne Jackson and tenor saxophonist Andrew Like, the band at once also included tenor saxophonist Ed Logan, trombonists Lewis Collins and Jack port Hale, and baritone saxophonist Wayne Mitchell. This is the lineup that documented for RCA within the ’70s, trimming LPs made by Booker T. Jones among others. They also supported Ruler Curtis and Aretha Franklin within the ’70s. Like was identified as having Alzheimer’s disease in 2002 and passed away ten years later on at his house in Memphis at age 70.
