The Fairies

Created in Colchester, Essex, England, in 1963 as Dane Stephens AS WELL AS THE Deepbeats, this lively R&B group contains Dane Stephens (vocals), Fred Gandy (guitar), John Acutt (guitar), Mick ‘Wimp’ Weaver (bass) and John ‘Twink’ Alder (drums). In 1964 they guaranteed a ‘one-off’ agreement with Decca Information. Having chosen the greater contemporary-sounding Fairies, the group finished a hurried edition of Bob Dylan’s ‘Don’t THINK It’s All Best’. Stephens remaining the line-up immediately after its launch and was changed by Nick Wymer. Wymer experienced previously led another regional act, Nick AS WELL AS THE Nomads aka Nix-Nomads who experienced already recorded an individual for HMV Information. ‘You’re No one (’Til Someone Loves You)’ was pedestrian, but its b-side, ‘She’ll Become Sweeter Than You’, can be an British R&B/punk traditional. The Fairies had been authorized to HMV through Wymer’s association. Having offered a choice to record ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’, later on popular for the Fairly Items, the Fairies documented ‘Obtain Yourself House’, that your Pretty Items themselves had declined. The effect was another amazing cut of rhythmic R&B and, although not really a hit, was among the finest English discs of 1965. Unfortunately, the Fairies had been pressured to tame their picture for his or her last launch, the unsatisfactory ‘Don’t Brain’. A chastened Wymer remaining the line-up and fallen out of professional music when programs for any projected group with Them’s Billy Harrison dropped through. The Fairies split immediately after his departure. Twink became a member of the In Audience and was afterwards an associate of a bunch of groupings including Tomorrow, the Pretty Stuff and Green Fairies.
