The Baytovens

Virtual unknowns in the rock pantheon, this SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Bay-area quartet trim only 1 record — the one “Looking forward to You” b/w “Such a Fool” (Belfast 67-1001, 1967) — yet confirmed a melodic sophistication rivaled by few contemporaries. The Baytovens contains brothers Jon and Affluent Green (business lead and bass electric guitar, respectively), Carl DePolo (drums) and Dwight Pitcaithley (tempo electric guitar). Finalists on the Cow Palace Music group Bash on Apr 5, 1966, the group was also highlighted at a Paul Revere AS WELL AS THE Raiders gig on the Oakland Auditorium that same month, and a KFRC-sponsored present at the faculty of San Mateo on Oct 15th. An L.A. documenting session implemented, and in Feb 1967 these tracks produced their debut. Pitcaithley’s “Looking forward to You” owes greater than a transferring nod to a particular Fab Foursome, while “Such a Fool” (graced by haunting minor-key arpeggios) suggestions its hat towards the Beau Brummels. Long out of printing, these songs are slated for eventual rerelease in the ’60s anthology series Nuggets from your Golden Condition (Ace/Big Beat Information). An unreleased, probably earlier solitary, “MY HOME” b/w “Luv Appear Away,” can be rumored to can be found.
