Terris

This Newport, Wales-based quartet was discovered by local hero Richard Parfitt, formerly from the 60 Foot Dolls, in Newport’s Le Pub. Pouring scorn on various other Welsh performers, Gavin Goodwin (vocals), Alun Bound (electric guitar), Owen Matthews (drums) and Neil Dugmore (keyboards), who shaped the music group in 1999, proclaimed themselves as the saviours of pop music. With disdain for the mass media and music contemporaries as well, the impassioned zeal of Goodwin released the music group into prominence with a fresh Music Express cover despite a meagre background. His nervy efficiency style resulted in comparisons with Pleasure Department’s Ian Curtis, and like Curtis, he talks of music-making being a compulsion rather than route to popularity. Indeed, the tough intensity from the limited model The Time IS CURRENTLY EP and debut one ‘Cannibal Children’ tapped the same energy as the punk and grunge actions. The media buzz set impossible specifications because of their debut record, released in March 2001, although on paths such as for example ‘White Gold Method’ and ‘Deliverance’ the music group’s great potential shone through.
