The lyricist for a comparatively modest amount of songs within the 30s and 40s, Adams went to New York College or university and subsequently researched law before taking on songwriting. He added some lyrics to different revues before having his ‘I’ll Betcha I’ll Getcha’ and ‘Hiya, Sucker’ (both with Jesse Greer) contained in the 1933 Broadway musical humor Shady Lady. Afterwards in the 10 years, he collaborated thoroughly with Hoagy Carmichael, and something of the most appealing amounts, ‘Little Old Female’, is at the 1936 Beatrice Lillie – Bert Lahr revue, The Present Can be On. Among his additional collaborators were Fat Waller, Milton Ager and Louis Alter. Adams offered for a while as Chief executive of ASCAP.
