Perhaps one of the most interesting multicultural fusions from the 1980s was made by Mali-born kora (21-stringed lute) participant Toumani Diabate, Uk bass participant Danny Thompson, and people of Spanish flamenco group Katemah. Primarily going to record a one-time record in 1988, the group reformed to record another record, Songhai 2, six years afterwards. During the first documenting periods, Diabate, the boy of important kora participant Sidike Diabate, got started to attract worldwide attention along with his single record, Kaira. Released the prior year, the record remains among the best-selling recordings of single kora playing. Katemah was also starting to collect steam. Comprising two brothers — Antonio and Juan Miguel Carmona along with a cousin, Juan Carmona, the group experienced released its self-titled debut recording in 1985. A founding person in English folk-rock group, Pentangle, Thompson continues to be become among England’s busiest sidemen, showing up on an extended set of albums by such top-notch performers as Richard Thompson, Loudon Wainwright III, and Tom Paxton.
