Simon Standage

As an expert in historical violin methods from the seventeenth and eighteenth decades, Simon Standage has performed with lots of the world’s leading period instrument orchestras. Following a music level from Cambridge School in 1963, a Harkness Fellowship to review with Ivan Galamian in NEW YORK, and, following a 1972 Wigmore Hall debut, he became a founding person in Trevor Pinnock’s ensemble the British Concert. Standage offered as initial (single) violinist of the ensemble from 1973 to 1991; his documenting of Vivaldi’s The Four Periods with the British Concert received a Grammy nomination. Standage also performed extensively using the British Chamber Orchestra from 1974 to 1978, led the town of London Sinfonia from 1980 to 1989, and offered as associate movie director from the Academy of Old Music from 1991 to 1995. Appointed teacher of Baroque violin on the Royal Academy of Music in London in 1983, he provides taught on the Dresden Akademie für Alte Musik since 1993. Furthermore to these longtime organizations, Standage provides founded two ensembles specialized in historically conscious string functionality. The Salomon Quartet, which he founded in 1981, focuses on applying period equipment and methods to the eighteenth hundred years quartet and quintet repertory. In 1990, Standage and Richard Hickox founded the group Collegium Musicum 90. Under agreement with Chandos Information, Collegium Musicum 90 created a lot more than 40 recordings in its initial 10 years, from large-scale dramatic functions to acclaimed trio sonata recordings.
