Biography
The SFJAZZ Collective — “SF” such as SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA — is really a forward-thinking octet featuring an ever-changing lineup of music artists both young and old. Shaped in 2004 being a nonprofit firm, the group shows up regularly on the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Jazz Celebration and targets reinterpreting the functions of one essential contemporary jazz composer per year, in addition to brand-new compositions by its people. With its mixed lineups, the collective provides highlighted a bevy of acclaimed performers including saxophonist Joshua Redman, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, pianist Renee Rosnes, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón, trombonist Josh Roseman, bassist Robert Hurst, drummer Brian Cutter, among others. The collective released its self-titled debut record on non-esuch in 2005, implemented a year afterwards by SF Jazz Collective, Vol. 2. Many more albums implemented, like the Thelonious Monk-themed Live 2007: 4th Annual Concert Tour, the Wayne Shorter-themed Live 2008: 5th Annual Concert Tour, as well as the McCoy Tyner-themed Live 2009: 6th Annual Concert Tour. In 2011, SFJAZZ Collective released Music of Stevie Question and New Compositions: Reside in NY 2011 Period 8. The Collective commemorated their 2015 period with the discharge of another limited-edition record, The Music of Michael Jackson & First Compositions.
