Rachid Taha

Algerian singer/songwriter Rachid Taha became an iconic groundbreaking body in his adopted French homeland because of his eclectic mixture of indigenous rai and chaabi influences, organic punk energy, and rebellious rock and roll & move attitude. Delivered in Sig, Mascara Province in Algeria in 1958, Taha emigrated to France along with his family members at age ten. While employed in a heating system stock in the ’70s, he founded his very own nightclub, Les Refoules, which performed mash-ups of Arabic pop strikes over monitors by famous brands Led Zeppelin and Kraftwerk. In 1980, he produced Maghreb punk clothing Carte de Sejour, who documented two albums, Rhorhomanie and Ramsa, and have scored popular with an anarchic cover edition of Charles Trénet’s Douce France, before disbanding in 1989. 2 yrs later, he released his solo profession with debut LP, Barbes, but attained his biggest achievement with 1998’s traditional Algerian/Arab-inspired Diwan and 2004’s Tekitoi, both which were made by long-term collaborator Steve Hillier. Taha in addition has performed with Robert Seed, Patti Smith, and Brian Eno, made an appearance on-stage with Damon Albarn’s aspect task Africa Express, and protected the Clash’s “Rock and roll the Casbah” for the Joe Strummer film, THE NEAR FUTURE Is certainly Unwritten, while many of his music have been highlighted in Hollywood films including Dark Hawk Down and THE REALITY About Charlie.
