Oliver Jackson

A very handy drummer within the golf swing/mainstream/Dixieland picture, Oliver Jackson appeared on the many sessions over time. He was section of Detroit’s extremely viable jazz picture in the past due 1940s, using Thad Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Wardell Grey, among others. Jackson also frequently performed as half a variety action with Eddie Locke known as Bop & Locke. The drummer caused Yusef Lateef (1954-1956), transferred to NY, and then started freelancing. He was a normal on the Metropole (1957-1958), used Teddy Wilson, is at the Charlie Shavers Quintet (1959-1961), and caused Buck Clayton, Benny Goodman (1962), Lionel Hampton (1962-1964), Kenny Burrell, Earl Hines (on / off during 1964-1970), as well as the JPJ Quartet (a co-op music group with Budd Johnson). In old age Jackson was with Sy Oliver’s group (1975-1980), Oscar Peterson, George Wein’s Newport All-Stars, and several short-term rings. He led periods for Dalahay (in Switzerland in 1961) as well as for a minimum of live albums for the Dark & Blue label during 1977-1984.
