Nytro

Influenced with the Bar-Kays as well as the Ohio Players, Nytro was an obscure funk/soul group that caused producer/songwriter Norman Whitfield in the past due ’70s. Whitfield, who have scored major hits for everybody from Edwin Starr to Rose Royce, was known for getting the Midas contact in the past. But he didn’t possess much commercial achievement using the horn-powered Nytro, which documented two albums for his Whitfield label: 1977’s Nytro and 1979’s Go back to Nytropolis. Neither of these LPs (which ranged from gritty funk to jazz-influenced peaceful storm materials) offered and in 1980, Nytro split up. Nytro’s lineup included business lead vocalist Robert Justice, trumpeters Kenneth Scott and LaMorris Payne, saxophonist Chris Powell, guitarist Earnest Reed Jr., bassist Theodore Willingham, keyboardist Benjamin Wilber, and drummer Daniel Smithson.
