Mustafa Özkent

Turkish composer, arranger, and musician Mustafa Ozkent was a lesser-known but significant figure around the Ankara music scene until his music belatedly discovered a receptive audience in the Western more than 4 decades into his career. Ozkent released his career mainly because a specialist musician in 1960 because the leader of the Turkish pop group known as the Teens (due to the fact nobody within the group was older than 19). A talented guitarist who was simply known to change the look of his devices to create uncommon tonal characteristics, Ozkent gained a reputation like a gifted maverick and by the dawn from the 1970s was popular as a program participant, arranger, and maker, creating music that fused psychedelic and pop/rock and roll affects with R&B grooves and jazz-influenced improvisations. In 1972, Ozkent partnered with Evren Information, a Turkish label known because of its high creation requirements and audiophile documenting methods; Ozkent booked period at among Istanbul’s finest documenting facilities, along with a hand-picked group of music artists he began documenting new materials dominated by cool vamps, prolonged percussion jams, hard-grooving body organ lines, and wah-wah guitars. The resultant LP, Genclikle Elele (Together with Youngsters), sounded as though it were created for hip-hop DJs searching for funky breaks, though it was cut years prior to the nascent South Bronx picture began to bloom (not forgetting half a globe apart). In 2006, the musically omnivorous record enthusiasts at the United kingdom Finders Keepers label reissued Ozkent’s masterpiece, and it gained rave reviews within the U.K. along with the United States. In the meantime, Ozkent (who helped Finders Keepers using the reissue of Genclikle Elele) continues to be energetic in Turkey, launching the record Dijital Electric guitar in 2005.
