Mates of State

Kori Gardner (keyboard/vocals) and Jason Hammel (drums/vocals) were both using electric guitar and singing in the Kansas music metropolis of Lawrence before forming the Mates of Condition in 1997. Using their dual vocal harmonies and minimalist pop charm, Omnibus Information released Mates of State’s first EP being a divided with Fighter D in 1999. Upon a relocation to SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, the duo’s second EP, It is the Rules/Invitation Inn, and a debut studio room effort, My Single Project, implemented in 2000. Travels of the Midwest implemented into the following season and strategies continuing to swirl. Hammel and Gardner, who had been wedded in early 2001, inked themselves a cope with Polyvinyl ahead of documenting a follow-up. Summertime days had been spent playing displays with Superdrag, the Anniversary, and Beulah while composing songs on the highway. Those sessions resulted in the second record, Our Continuous Concern, in 2002. Polyvinyl reissued their debut record, My Solo Task, the next springtime, accompanied by the full-length Group Boo. After their agreement was up with Polyvinyl (closing using the 2004 EP ALL DAY LONG), Mates of Condition decided to mind to Barsuk, the label that released TAKE IT Back 2006 and Re-Arrange Us in 2008. Crushes: The Addresses Mixtape arrived 2 yrs later; in the mean time, Gardner and Hammel had been focusing on the follow-up to Re-Arrange Us, documenting in six different studios during the period of 1 . 5 years. The duo collaborated with mixer Chris Coady on the ultimate result, 2011’s Mountaintops. The music group toured sporadically over another couple of years, but with two small children on the picture, Hammel and Gardner devoted more time with their personal lives. They reappeared in 2015 with two produces, Greats, a strikes collection on Fierce Panda, and an EP entitled You are going to Make It. That 12 months, Gardner and Hammel also made up the rating for the Marc Brener-directed The Rumperbutts, and in addition acted in the film.
