Masters of Ceremony

A short-lived, golden age rap group in the ‘80s, the Experts of Ceremony produced no considerable effect on hip-hop beyond their NYC suburban locale, except the fact that group first placed on screen the mike methods of Brand Nubian member Grand Puba. Produced in New Rochelle, NY, the Experts trio — rappers Grand Puba Maxwell and Dr. Who plus DJ Shabazz — was the initial act agreed upon to imprint Solid Town, co-founded by Afrika Bambaataa associate and DJ Jazzy Jay in 1985. The Experts of Ceremony’s debut one, “Criminal offense,” appeared that same season, implemented in 1986 with the more lucrative 12″s “Sexy” and “Damaged Out,” both made by Jazzy Jay. With the majority of the production taken care of by Grand Puba, their Dynamite (1988) LP was a industrial disappointment, though it had been regarded extremely among N.Con. hip-hop collectors at that time. Some more 12″s, like the recording title slice and “Expert Move,” had been released prior to the group ultimately disbanded that same 12 months. In 2005, Jazzy Jay experienced Dynamite remastered, and he reissued the LP via Visitors Entertainment.
