Mark Egan

Tag Egan, who includes a floating audio, is best-known for his command of Components with drummer Danny Gottlieb. His initial device was the trumpet, switching to bass at 16. Egan used Ira Sullivan’s group in Miami from 1974 to 1976 and moved to NY where he toured using the Pointer Sisters and David Sanborn. Egan’s big break was when he joined up with the Pat Metheny Group (1977-1980), documenting and touring thoroughly. Since departing Metheny, he spent some time working in many circumstances, including with Stan Getz, Jim Hall, the Gil Evans Orchestra (1983-1985), and John McLaughlin. Components, which often also features Expenses Evans on reeds and keyboardist Clifford Carter, was shaped in 1982 and it has existed on the part-time basis since, documenting for Philo, Antilles, Novus, and Bluemoon.
