Liam Weldon

b. 1933, Dublin, Eire, d. 28 November 1995, Dublin, Eire. Singer-songwriter Liam Weldon became carefully identified using the plight of Ireland’s gypsy community during his lengthy playing career. Just sporadically recorded, a few of his greatest work surfaced in the 70s and, with French flute participant Pol Huello, the 80s and 90s. His followers included Christy Moore, who paid tribute to his impact after his loss of life in 1995 by saying ‘Liam was psychologically involved with performing. There was usually an advantage.’ Like Moore, Weldon’s finest tunes documented the challenges of the disenfranchised community.
