Leopold Ludwig

Leopold Ludwig was a respected Austrian conductor. Especially popular as an opera conductor, he was also among the first to create stereo system LP recordings of symphonies of Gustav Mahler. He discovered piano like a son and continued to review the instrument in the Vienna Conservatory with Emil Pauer. He started his conducting profession in the original German manner, operating himself up through several coaching and performing positions in provincial opera homes in south Germany and in Brno, Czechoslovakia. He became the Music Movie director from the Oldenburg Staatsoper (Condition Opera) in 1936. Regular guest conducting looks in Berlin brought him to nationwide attention, resulting in his visit as Primary Conductor from the Vienna Staatsoper in 1939. Using the London Symphony Orchestra he produced a pioneering documenting of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, and executed such leading orchestras as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra. He was known for his relaxed system demeanor and insufficient flashiness. He was generally praised for his competence and method with controlling orchestral sounds to create outstanding effects, while some detractors occasionally ranked him as extremely competent and occasionally less than influenced.
