Leone Leoni

Having received music trained in Verona at the institution established by Rely Mario Bevilacqua, Leoni acceded to the positioning of master from the chapel for Vicenza Cathedral in 1588. He kept this placement intil his loss of life. His compositions had been in the vocal styles including sacred aswell as secular items. Leoni composed more than 130 madrigals and many motets, 144 which survive. The music can be characterized by significant contrasts and alternations between solos and instrumental trios. Additional features of his music add a basic treatment of tranquility, tempo and melody and limited motions in the bass lines not often exceeding 4ths or 5ths.
