Lee Konitz

One of the most person of most altoists (and something of the couple of in the 1950s who have did not appear to be a cousin of Charlie Parker), the cool-toned Lee Konitz offers always had a solid musical interest, leading him to consistently take possibilities and stretch out himself, usually quite successfully. In early stages he researched clarinet, turned to alto, and used Jerry Wald. Konitz obtained some interest for his solos with Claude Thornhill & His Orchestra (1947). He began monitoring with Lennie Tristano, who experienced a big impact on his conception and method of improvising. Konitz was with Kilometers Davis’ Delivery of the Great Nonet throughout their one gig and their Capitol recordings (1948-1950) and documented with Lennie Tristano’s innovative sextet (1949), like the 1st two free of charge improvisations ever recorded. Konitz blended perfectly with Warne Marsh’s tenor (their unisons on “Wow” are miraculous) and could have many reunions with both Tristano and Marsh over time, but he was also thinking about finding his personal way; by the first ’50s he began breaking from the Tristano college. Konitz toured Scandinavia (1951), where his awesome sound was important, and he easily fit into remarkably well with Stan Kenton & His Orchestra (1952-1954), becoming presented on many graphs by Expenses Holman and Expenses Russo. Konitz was mainly a leader in the future. He nearly retired from music in the first ’60s but re-emerged a couple of years later on. His recordings possess ranged from amazing bop to thoughtful free of charge improvisations, and his Milestone group of Duets (1967) is really a classic. Within the ’70s and ’80s, Konitz improved his documented output, issuing regularly stimulating periods for such brands as SteepleChase, Philogy, Spirit Note, among others. In 1992, he earned the renowned Jazzpar Award. He held a busy discharge schedule through the entire ’90s and dabbled in the world of traditional music with 2000’s French Impressionist Music through the Switch of the Twentieth Hundred years. The Mark Experts Ensemble joined up with him for 2004’s 1 DAY with Lee, and in 2007 he documented Portology using the Ohad Talmor Big Music group. He has documented on soprano and tenor but provides mostly trapped to his exclusive alto. In 2011, he released his very own trio record Knowinglee and made an appearance in the live ECM time Live at Birdland (documented in ’09 2009) with pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist Charlie Haden, and drummer Paul Motian. 3 years afterwards, he became a member of Dan Tepfer, Michael Janisch, and Jeff Williams for Initial Meeting: Reside in London, Vol. 1. In 2017, Konitz shipped the quartet time Frescalalto, offering pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Peter Washington, and drummer Kenny Washington.
