Kim Clarke

Best known on her behalf tenure using the pioneering avant-funk device Defunkt, bassist Kim Clarke began taking part in R&B at age group 18; a self-taught musician, she was a university sophomore when she first discovered from the Jazzmobile project’s Sunday workshops, changing her main to music and proceeding to review under the loves of Jimmy Owens, Lisle Atkinson, Buster Williams, Victor Gaskins, Jimmy Heath and Ernie Wilkins. Granted a Country wide Endowment for the Arts Jazz research give, Clarke honed her abilities beneath the tutelage of bass great Ron Carter; a stint at Barry Harris’ jazz improvisation workshop adopted, and quickly she was the home bassist at several Harlem jazz night clubs along with the Jazz Cultural Theatre’s “Artwork Blakey Breakfast time Jam.” Clarke became a member of Defunkt for 1982’s Thermonuclear Perspiration, remaining using the group for over ten years; concurrently she toured European countries and Japan with a number of artists prior to going on to business lead the jazz group Internal Circle Quartet as well as the funk/jazz task A.W.O.L. (Angels with Exceptional Attorneys). In the past due 1990s, Clarke also teamed with saxophonist Rob Scheps to business lead the Oregon-based Magnets.
