Johnny Blas

Fashionable conguero Johnny Blas continues to be leading his band since 1992, launching their initial album together, A Evening in L.A. on Discos Dos Coronas in 1994. The record (and the ones that implemented) highlighted Blas’ solid playing alongside some similarly solid songwriting and support from a gifted group of music artists, including percussionist Angel Rodriguez, trombonists Humberto Ruiz, Kerry Loeschen, Edwin Blas and Dan Weinstein, guitarist Tag Gutierrez and bassist Paul Perez. The music group kept in the hard work, launching two even more albums over the famous CuBop label, Epidermis and Bone fragments in 1997 and Mambo 2000 in 1998, both which gained critical praise within the Latin and Jazz music press. In 1999, Blas’ continuing the tradition using the discharge of Ruler Conga, also released over the CuBop label. The record employs the songwriting abilities of band associates Guitierrez and Weinstein and features exactly the same sort of jazzy, cool Afro-Caribbean groove which was entirely on his initial three albums.
