John Edwards

Once an exceptionally popular regional appeal, John Edwards moved in the chitlin circuit towards the big style when he joined the Spinners. Delivered in St. Louis, Edwards started performing in men’s night clubs while stationed in Germany during his Military times. When he was discharged, Edwards found Columbus, GA. He made an appearance once with Wilson Pickett and did several schedules in Chicago, where he fulfilled Curtis Mayfield in 1968. Mayfield got Edwards a program at Weis Information and Jo Armstead created “EASILY Don’t Lose My Mind” in 1969. Armstead created various other singles for Weis and Twin Stacks before Edwards transferred to Bell in 1972. Floyd Smith co-wrote and created “THE APPEARANCE on Your Encounter,” and Edwards moved once again to Aware, in 1973. Smith created his LP John Edwards, and “Ruining a very important thing” generated some interest. Nonetheless it was “Cautious Man” in 1974 that got Edwards his 1st and only strike as an individual work; it reached quantity eight. When Aware folded, Edwards do a few times using the Spinners in 1973, but continuing his solo profession with Cotillion. His 1976 LP Existence Like and Living included some superb deep soul music, particularly “Baby, Retain Me,” but didn’t obtain much interest. Edwards became a member of The Spinners full-time in 1977 and continues to be with them presently. “Functioning My IN THE PAST to You/Forgive Me, Female” and “Cupid/I’ve Loved You for a long period” in 1980 will be the biggest Spinners strikes offering Edwards to time.
