Drummer Joe Farnsworth offers earned the admiration of both his contemporaries and jazz veterans for his gleaming cymbal function and effervescent feeling of your time. Farnsworth was among five sons of trumpeter, music group movie director, and Stan Kenton lover Roger Farnsworth. He and his brothers had been all subjected to jazz and he started playing on his old sibling, David’s, drum arranged. He went to William Paterson University, learning with pianist Harold Mabern Jr. and drummer Arthur Taylor. His delicate, hard bop-based design enabled him to match on periods with Cecil Payne, Mabern, and Junior Make. Farnsworth in addition has been an in depth associate of Criss Combination labelmates Eric Alexander (tenor saxophone) and Steve Davis (trombone), who both participated in his debut documenting, “Beautiful Camaraderie,” on Criss Combination, and, as well as pianist David Hazeltine and trumpeter Jim Rotondi, function in the cooperative hard bop sextet One for any.
