Jean-Pierre Guignon

Like a violinist Guignon surpassed the executing abilities of such virtuosos as Anet, Leclair, Mondonville, and Guillemain. His compositions, dominated by instrumental sonatas (some concertos, symphonies and variants), had been substandard weighed against the functions of these violinists. He made an appearance in a number of concerts, as do several other college students from the renowned Somis, producing his debut in the Concert Spirituel which have been simply recently opened up (1725). Guignon performed in the courts, salons and the general public and offered great satisfaction. Because of numerous intrigues and his personal contentiousness, Guignon just performed in the courtroom and salons after 1750. The final public performances arrived on trips with Mondonville in 1744 and 1746. The general public lauded their shows but Guignon’s expectation toward the music into the future had not been well recieved from the conservative critics.
