Jean-Louis Duport

A member from the Duport category of cellists and composers. Jean-Louis examined with his sibling and was using virtoustic acclaim by age 18. He was weighed against the violinist Viotti and afterwards performed for Marie-Antoinette with Viotti. When the Trend occurred, Duport visited Prussia where he composed a treatise on playing the cello (“Essai sur la doigte du violoncelle et sur la conduite de l’archet”) that was released in Paris in 1813 just after the addition of 21 exercises. The importance of this function was its thoroughness explaining such basics as strategies, clefs, fingering, as well as the keeping and tuning from the cello. It’s the base of contemporary cello performance strategies. He came back to Paris in 1806 and trained at the courtroom of Charles IV in Marseilles, and, once again in Paris from 1813 to 1816. Duport’s compositions included sonatas and concertos for his device requiring virtuostic methods.
