Jack and Charlie Coen

The original music of Ireland’s County Galway is preserved through the playing of Jack port and Charlie Coen. Surviving in america because the 1950s, the brothers always keep the music of their homeland alive. Their record, The Branch Series, recorded at Jack port Coen’s home in the Bronx, NY, and made by Mick Moloney in 1976, continues to be a highly valued sampling from the Coen brothers’ traditional flute and concertina melodies. Blessed into a huge category of nine kids, Jack port and Charlie Coen shown musical skill at young age range. Playing tin whistle because the age group of eight, Charlie gained seven All-Ireland tournaments in concertina, flute and whistle playing, and British and Irish performing. As well as concertina participant Paddy O’Brien and fiddler Larey Redican, Jack port gained the All-Ireland Trio tournament. A lot of their repertoire was obtained from original resources, including Dad Kelly, Tommy Whelan, Paddy O’Brien, and Sean Ryan. The initial brother to keep Ireland, Charlie resolved in america in 1954. He inserted the priesthood in 1968. Jack port, who implemented his brother towards the U.S. in the later ’50s, has continued to be active being a musician. He performed with Moloney’s Irish American group the Green Areas of America and, in 1991, was honored a National Traditions Award in the National Endowment from the Arts. Accompanied by his kid Jimmy on electric guitar, he documented a solo record in 2001.
