Hattie North

Hattie North was a pseudonym for Edith North Johnson. The wife of record manufacturer Jesse Johnson, Johnson had not been a professional vocalist or piano participant, but she monitored 18 great blues edges in 1928 and 1929, including a program with Charley Patton in Grafton, WI, for Paramount Information, although it is normally doubtful Patton in fact appeared on some of her music. She produced her house in St. Louis, where she went a fleet of taxis during Globe Battle II and possessed a favorite diner. Sam Charters documented her with Henry Dark brown in 1961 for his anthology known as The Blues in St. Louis for Folkways Information. Johnson also documented beneath the pseudonym Maybelle Allen. Blessed January 2, 1903, in St. Louis, she passed away there on Feb 28, 1988.
