Harry Graham

b. Jocelyn Henry Clive Graham, 23 Dec 1874, London, Britain, d. 30 Oct 1936, London, Britain. Educated at Eton University and Sandhurst, Graham became a member of the Coldstream Guards, getting aide-de-camp to Lord Minto, Governor-General of Canada. Afterwards, Graham was a journalist, author of comic verse, and librettist and lyricist. His books of verse, some released as by Col. D. Streamer, consist of Ruthless Rhymes For Heartless Homes (1898), Perverted Proverbs (1903) and Misrepresentative Guys (1905). Among many musical functions are his British lyrics for The Movie theater Star (1914), reserve by Jack port Hulbert, a cooperation with Percy Greenbank on lyrics for Tina (1915), music by Paul Rubens and Haydn Solid wood, and Sybil (1916), his British version of the initial by Maximum Brody and Franz Martos, aswell as the lyrics with Harry B. Smith to music by Victor Jacobi. An enormous success was included with The Maid FROM THE Mountains (1917), publication by Frederick Lonsdale, lyrics by Graham, music by Harold Fraser-Simson. In 1920 he collaborated with Adrian Ross on lyrics, and with Dion Clayton Calthrop around the publication for any Southern Maid, music by Fraser-Simson. He published lyrics for THE GIRL FROM THE Rose (1921), music by Jean Gilbert, publication modified by Lonsdale from Rudolph Schanzer and Ernst Welisch’s initial. This display was staged in NY as THE GIRL In Ermine (1922) with variants on publication and lyrics by Cyrus Timber. Also in 1921, Graham had written lyrics and collaborated with Seymour Hicks in the reserve for JUST A LITTLE Dutch Female, music by Emmerich Kálmán. Graham and Lonsdale also modified Schanzer and Welisch’s reserve for Madam Pompadour (1925), music by Leo Fall and lyrics by Graham. Also in 1925, he had written lyrics to Fraser-Simson’s music for Betty In Mayfair, by J. Hastings Turner. Another version with Lonsdale was Katja The Dancer (1925) from the initial reserve by Leopold Jacobson and Rudolph Oesterreicher, and that Graham also had written the lyrics to Gilbert’s music. The display was staged in NY as Katja (1926). In the first 30s Graham’s function included Keep My Hands (1931), music by Noel Homosexual, co-lyricist Norman Blair, as well as the British reserve and lyrics for Viktoria And Her Hussar (1931), music by Paula Abraham, that was based upon the task by Alfred Grunwald and Dr. Fritz Löhner (which got subsequently been adapted through the Hungarian first of Emmerich Foldes). Graham’s comic verse lives on in the 21st hundred years, a lot of it showing up on the web.
