Esther Williamson Ballou

After early study for the piano and organ, Ballou attended Bennington College, Mills College, as well as the Juilliard College of Music. She later on toured like a pianist with many dance businesses and made up ballets for Louise Kloepper and José Limón. As an educator, Ballou created experimental options for teaching theory at the faculty level. The written text Innovative Explorations of Musical Components (1971) can be among her pedagogical manuscripts. In her personal phrases, her music “is likely toward classicism for the reason that it tensions clarity of style and directness of manifestation.” Her Capriccio for violin and piano was the 1st function by an American female composer to create its debut in the White colored House (1963).
