Eighties Ladies

Beneath the direction of Roy Ayers, the Eighties Ladies released one album, Ladies from the ’80s, in 1980. The group was a quintet of vocalists offering Sylvia Striplin, Marva Hicks, Susan Beaubian, Vivian Prince, and Denie Corbett. Girls from the ’80s, released on Ayers’ Uno Melodic imprint, didn’t do very much sales-wise, but two slashes off the great album, “Fired up for you” and “I Knew That Appreciate,” fared well in night clubs and continue being favorites of these into the uncommon groove picture. Striplin got some solo achievement with Ayers around once; Hicks became associated with Broadway, sang back-up for Stevie Question for a stretch out, and released a single record in 1991.
