Dudley Callicutt

Don’t assume all rockabilly singer was destined for story, or even acknowledgement in his own period — but at least several who began that method in the past due ’50s were able to stay static in music, as well as to create lifelong careers away of music, if definitely not in rock and roll & move. Dudley Callicutt was one. He was a 17-year-old high-school college student in Charlotte, NC when he got his opportunity at rock and roll & move immortality. His cousin Rudy Callicutt published two tunes, “Heart Problems” and “PREPARE YOURSELF Baby,” that Dudley documented at Edgewood Studios in Washington, D.C., supported by the Proceed Males, led by Gene Vincent & His Blue Hats alumnus Russell Willaford. Callicutt sang like Elvis in his attempts at balladry in the first RCA days, actually backed with a distinctly sub-Jordanaires clothing and with Willaford attempting hard to appear to be Scotty Moore or Chet Atkins. Regrettably, the evidence shows that they weren’t that great, the support group occasionally having difficulty singing on important, at least with regards to heading head-to-head with Presley. Vocalist and band as well did better using the hard-rocking “PREPARE YOURSELF Baby,” though it’s still sub-Elvis materials, at least until Willaford and Tommy Junkersfield (piano) consider the break. Those edges were released around the DC label from the Area of Columbia, and had been later on leased to Gotham Information in Philadelphia. Even though neither of his debut record didn’t strike, Dudley Callicutt continuing performing in the region around Charlotte until he moved into university in 1960.
