Doc Williams

Doc Williams and his wife Chickie were popular performers in the Canadian maritimes and New Britain; although the few and their music group the Boundary Riders documented, performed live and made an appearance on the air for over five years, they never really had a nationwide hit. Doc was created Andrew John Smik, Jr. in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Kittaning, Pa, and got his professional begin using the Kansas Clodhoppers through the early ’30s. The Clodhoppers ultimately became the Boundary Riders, and shifted to WWVA Wheeling in 1937; shortly, by adding comedian Froggie Cortez and cowboy crooner Big Slim the Lone Cowboy, they truly became among the station’s most well-known destinations. In 1948, Williams wedded Jessie Wanda Crupe, a vocalist known on her behalf sweet tone of voice who soon followed the stage name Chickie.
